May the fourth shoot lightning at you

HEY NOW. My petty vandalism is actually masking a pretty much all right Mallard Fillmore strip for something much more uncomfortable. COURTING CONTROVERSY. MOCKING BRUCE TINSLEY. I DON’T EVEN KNOW ANYMORE.

Young man, pick yourself off the ground.

I took yesterday off because Bruce has learned that if he writes a generic strip supporting our troops (don’t get me wrong, that’s definitely a fine sentiment), people will stop sending him angry e-mails. Pure conjecture, but seems plausible. Anyway, Mallard has found his way back to criticizing fashion trends of THE DAMN YOOOOOOUTH, this time ones that really don’t exist. It’s a good step for him.

19.99 a month!

I’m not entirely sure what Bruce is getting at here. Commentary on the self-perpetuating nature of internet fame? Jealousy that other newspaper features get more clicks than his heinous comic? I guess that’s something that a conservative duck would care about. Or something.

Quicker and less painful

Every time I think about sitting through hours and hours of political punditry that has only a fleeting relationship with reality (I don’t care for B.S. coming from either side, but Bruce attacks the “liberal media” quite effectively on his own), I think about Wallace Shawn in Vegas Vacation. “Here’s an idea: why don’t you give me half the money you were gonna bet, then we’ll go out back, I’ll kick you in the nuts, and we’ll call it a day!”

This human animal

See, ducks do have that. At least certain species. I felt really terrible about changing Bruce’s work today, because it was actually pretty enjoyable for me. He casts Mallard Fillmore as an incredibly catty, plausibly gay fashionista… THE WORLDS ARE BLENDING TOGETHER. His Mallard and my Mallard grow closer every day! Is this what the Mayans may or may not have predicted?

Billy Shakespeare wrote a whole bunch of sonnets

Spread the love of LFO wherever you may find yourself. Once again, Bruce finds himself trapped in the world of poorly constructed apolitical humor. Here, he settles nicely into the role of Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino. DAMN KIDS!
